This week is a speedy go-to pot-luck recipe (which are in abundance this time of year) for when there’s zero time to make anything. Outdoor cooking inspo and a binge-able narrative podcast series.
A recipe - is Rummaniyeh. Yes I’m back with another lentil recipe: a Palestinian Aubergine/Lentil stew with puy lentils, tahini, maple syrup, pomegranate and charred eggplant.
Podcast - The Witch Trials of JK Rowling. A 7 part narrative Podcast offering an interesting journalistic account of all sides of the controversy surrounding JK Rowling. Super interesting and really well produced.
Words for thought
Outdoor cooking - recently become obsessed with the fact chef, champion free diver and spear fisher Kimi Wearner cooks outside so much. Initially, I was going to go for something similar to her set up; a fire pit with a grill over the top. But after chatting to my brother about his portable pizza oven, I googled other small ovens and found this tutorial with a guy who built a temporary pizza oven for $50 worth of bricks.
Another recipe for when you’re rocking up to a last-minute Christmas thing - December is the month we have the least time on our hands, but also the most booked up social calendar. One the things I like to bring when I have no time to make a plate for a pot luck is this levelled-up fruit salad. Fruit salad has a bad rep. When I was a kid, all I saw was unappealing brown slimy bananas in a bowl with all the boring fruits like apples and pears. This version makes me wonder what the heck we were doing with fruit salad before. It’s basically just all the best fruits that everyone loves like mango, watermelon, peaches, nectarines. Then you add these crucial elements that make it look pretty and impressive: berries, mint leaves and an optional passionfruit or lime, which I cut in half and pour it over the top.
A 7 day seedling time lapse - Marigolds and Zuchinni’s. The zuchinni has now graduated to its big pot, so I’ll share updates when they’re growing and hopefully producing lots of zuchinnis.
A sunny playlist for your summer
