Afternoon! Deviating heavily from tradition, here’s Heliotropic List #21 on Tuesday afternoon. Here’s some of what I’ve been listening to, reading, thrifting and thinking about lately.
A video for perfectionists - If you also struggle to share creative work, listen to this. It’s an excerpt from an interview with Seth Godin with some great points, including a useful parallel he draws between creatives and surgeons.

Free Google Calendar resource for cycle syncing - Although I’ve known about it for a while, after getting caught at work with my period this week, I was finally inspired to find a way to integrate monthly ‘cycle syncing’ into my calendar. It means I can visibly see which part of my cycle I’m in while planning my month ahead. I found this lady who made a free Period Tracker that forecasts your cycle and Syncs it with Google Calendar. It also sends you an email when you’re about to get your period. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, you can learn more about it here. Basically cyclical beings go through the equivalent of a spring, summer, autumn and winter every month. While I’m pretty good at listening to my body, I wanted to know in advance what my energy fluctuations might be, so I can use these windows of opportunity throughout the month. For example, menstruation (winter) is the time to slow down, reflect and plan for the month ahead. The follicular (spring) phase brings more creativity and ideas. Ovulation (or hot girl summer) is great for writing, scheduling meetings and socialising more. Luteal (autumn) phase is the time to tie up lose ends and detail oriented work. It took a bit of time to sync it to my calendar so if anyone wants extra info, let me know and I might share a Loom of how to set it up.
Reads - Mythos by Stephen Fry. So far I’m enjoying this one. It’s an easy-breezy read that gives a wide overview on mythology. There’s something validating about reading the absurd chaos and shaky morality of the Gods. It makes you feel like you’ve got your shit together.
Recipe - For when you have too many herbs you know what to do with. It’s a Persian style herby omelette called Kuku Sabzi. I always have a giant bunch of dill in the fridge that I struggled to use until this recipe came along. I made a garlic/lemon yoghurt to go on top. So quick, easy and yum.
Words
It takes time to live. Like any work of art, life needs to be thought about.
