The first Heliotropic List of the year is coming to you transcribed from my notebook 📓. I was inspired by when bumping into a friend from
a couple of days ago at a cafe this week, who was writing her Substack in her notebook. Friends reading in the the Northern Rivers should check out her book club. This Heliotropic list features holiday reads, recipes, a fun bit of astrology homework and a trick to cleanse your email inbox of junk in about 30 seconds — among more things to help you kick off the new year on the right foot.
Read: Circe by Madeline Miller - a tale of self-determination, love and belonging based on Greek mythology that follows the life of exiled goddess and witch Circe
.
Read: Full Tilt - the diary of Dervla Murphy an Irish woman who cycled Ireland to India in the 60s.
Poetry - The Guest House by Rumi
Recipe - Tried and tested these ‘kolokithokeftethes’ or Greek zuchinni fritters I made for Christmas and they were 🤌
Death to the newsfeed - if you’re looking to reduce your distractions, I recommend Newsfeed Eradicator. It’s a plugin that removes the newsfeed on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and any other notoriously distracting app.
Inbox cleanse - this I saw somewhere in the ether the last couple of weeks so I don’t remember who to credit it to. Basically, to clear your inbox from unwanted clutter that would otherwise take days to unsubscribe, create a filter on Gmail. Under ‘Has the words,’ write ‘Unsubscribe,’ then you click ‘Archive’ or ‘Delete it.’
Lastly, a little astrology homework 🪐💫 - We all know our Sun sign, but do you know what house your Chiron, Saturn, or Lilith is in? This week I randomly got curious about astrology and learned that Chiron is your biggest wound that needs healing, Saturn; your biggest lesson and Lilith; a perpetual theme of shame you need to own in your lifetime. Mine were strangely accurate. If you’re curious to see if yours are too, hop onto Astro Seek, type in your birth details to pull up your full Natal Chart and scroll down to see what house and sign your Chiron, Saturn and Lilith are in. Then Google each respectively to find out more about them and how you address each one.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks list and Happy New Yearrr 🎉🥂
